NAME FOR BABY TREE KANGAROO AT THE RAINFOREST HABITAT
THURSDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2007
The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary’s rare tree kangaroo “joey” has been named.
With over 400 names entered in the competition, The Rainforest Habitat has chosen Demi, entered by Xander and Jesse Lisle of Port Douglas.
The word Demi has Greek and French origins meaning half, but it takes significance from Mount Demi in Mossman which has special meaning for many locals in the Douglas Shire.
The Rainforest Habitat is one of only two Zoos in the world that houses the Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo, which is native to the region.
The award-winning attraction launched a new behind-the-scenes viewing area last month, to house Demi and her mother with a new pathway extending from the existing facility which houses the father Tree Kangaroo, Jake.
Situated in Port Douglas, The Rainforest Habitat is Australia’s leading wildlife experience, providing visitors with a chance to observe up close a huge range of flora and fauna.
