Vital Hazard-free Road Construction

Importance of Road Construction

No matter the season, there are always more people on the road. It is even said there are more people on the road than in any establishment. That said road construction is becoming more vital so accidents will be prevented. According to statistics, road accidents in this country are increasing and as a matter of fact, there were about 1300 lives lost in the year of 2016 which is an improved figure compared to the previous year.

Yes, we cannot attribute the state of the roads as the main culprit for those accidents as the record says that is not the case. However, seeing there are already a handful of road fatalities, road construction projects should be then focused.

When dealing with a road construction project, safety tips should always be considered. After all, accidents don’t just happen on the roads while driving. One should always be aware of his safety, and these tips below might come in handy:

  • A detailed plan for every aspect of the project

A comprehensive plan is a must when you are dealing with a project that affects a lot of people. Note that you will be working on the busiest part of the city which is the roads. A proper traffic control plan should be implemented. There should be visible signages, and if the project entails blocking the road, an alternative route should be posted.

  • Work areas should be blocked

The working areas are the busiest, and sometimes, the workers won’t even have the time to look around anymore. They will be too busy dealing with their assignments thus it is a must this area is well blocked. One can use visible barrels or cones so such areas will be delineated.

  • Safety equipment

Wearing safety equipment is quite important, and as a matter of fact, no one should be allowed without this. I cannot stress enough the risks involved without the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, clearly visible clothing, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection, depending on the environment’s level of noise.

  • Always be sensitive to your surroundings

You will be in a very busy environment where each person minds his own task. One should always be mindful of the things around him as sometimes, accidents do happen. Always be cautious and don’t go around idling in blind spots like behind a truck and so on.

  • A competent person

There should be a competent person around every time the work is going on. This person is someone who is highly skilled in identifying possible risks. He should regularly conduct hazard inspections and assessments of the work area.
